1,200 tonnes of hilsa to be exported to India for Durga Puja: Commerce ministry
The government has set the minimum export price at $12.5 per kilogram of hilsha fish
The government has approved the conditional export of 1,200 tonnes of hilsa to India ahead of Durga Puja, following its annual practice.
Interested exporters are invited to submit hard copy of applications during office hours by 5pm on 11 September, said a commerce ministry notification issued today (8 September).
The notification specifies that applications must include the updated trade licence, ERC certificate, income tax certificate, VAT certificate, sales contract, licence from the Department of Fisheries, and any other relevant documents.
The government has set the minimum export price at $12.5 per kilogram of hilsha fish.
Exporters who previously applied without an invitation must also submit a new application to be considered, said the notification.
Hilsa has been recognised as a geographical indication (GI) product of Bangladesh since 2017. Bangladesh has been exporting hilsa to India for five consecutive years, although exports were suspended from 2012 to 2018. Each year, Indian traders express a demand for approximately 5,000 tonnes of hilsa during the Durga Puja festival.
Last year, Bangladesh exported 3,000 tonnes of hilsa fish to India during the Durga Puja festival.
