Many now trying to force their views on others in old fascist fashion: Saki
Regarding the path forward, Saki emphasised that justice, reform, and elections are now the most vital national priorities.

Chief Coordinator of Ganosamhati Andolon, Zonayed Saki, today (29 August) said many are attempting to impose their own views on others in a manner reminiscent of old-style fascism.
"We are witnessing how the spirit and aspiration of a people's uprising in Bangladesh — one that aimed to build an inclusive nation where the rights and dignity of all citizens would be respected — is being undermined. Today, many are trying to force their opinions onto others in the same authoritarian way," he said.
Saki made the remarks while talking to journalists after paying tribute to the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War at the National Martyrs' Memorial in Savar, on the occasion of Ganosamhati Andolon's 23rd founding anniversary.
Saki continued, "Driven by the belief that 'only our opinion is correct,' they are attacking people in various ways and enabling the emergence of mob rule."
He further said that, on one hand, the Awami League had established a fascist regime in the name of the Liberation War, betraying its true spirit. On the other hand, any resurgence or activity of right-wing fascism is equally contrary to the aspirations of the people. "The people want a democratic system — one that guarantees rights and dignity. We do not support or condone any form of injustice."
Highlighting the current political context, Saki said, "Bangladesh stands at a critical juncture. The fascist authoritarian government was overthrown through the mass uprising of 2024. However, we have yet to fully dismantle the underlying fascist authoritarian system. This remains an ongoing struggle."
Regarding the path forward, Saki emphasised that justice, reform, and elections are now the most vital national priorities. "It is unacceptable to frame justice and reform as being in conflict with elections. Elections are essential to implementing reforms, advancing justice, and guiding Bangladesh through a democratic transition. For this reason, we must come together to ensure a genuine and fair electoral environment."
He added, "Through the electoral process, we have reached a stage where a national charter is being formulated — and it must be implemented. We believe that a consensus can soon be built around the legal obligations and roadmap for implementing the charter. This will help foster an environment conducive to elections and bring about unity among active political parties."
Saki also expressed optimism that no evil force would be able to halt the country's progress or the advancement of its people.
Among those present at the event were Abul Hassan Rubel, Executive Coordinator of Ganosamhati Andolon; Political Council members Dewan Abdur Rashid Neelu, Taslima Akhter, and Monir Uddin Pappu; as well as Editorial Board members Bacchu Bhuiyan, Julhasnain Babu, and Dipak Kumar Roy, along with other central leaders.
