UAP hosts student-led healthcare awareness campaign
The Ingenious Marketing Club of the University of Asia Pacific (UAP) launched an awareness campaign titled "Advocating for Citizens' Right to Affordable Medicines" to highlight the rising cost of drugs and limited access to essential healthcare in Bangladesh. The event took place at the UAP Plaza.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qumrul Ahsan, Advisor to the VC Prof. Dr. Mohiuddin Ahmed Bhuiyan, and Professor Dr. M. A. Baqui Khalily, Dean of the School of Business. Speaking at the opening, Vice Chancellor Dr. Ahsan said, "Access to affordable medicines is not just an economic issue; it is a fundamental right. I am proud that our students are taking proactive steps to highlight this concern and using their skills in marketing to create social impact."
The campaign attracted enthusiastic participation, with more than 60 teams registering and over 40 submitting creative ideas. Eight teams advanced to the final round, presenting their concepts through interactive stalls, presentations, and live demonstrations.
Dean Dr. Khalily praised the initiative, saying, "This campaign demonstrates the real purpose of education—to serve society. These students have shown that marketing can promote values and social responsibility, not just profit-making."
The closing ceremony featured Architect Mahbuba Haque, Chairperson of the UAP Board of Trustees, as the chief guest. She remarked, "The affordability of medicines is a pressing issue that affects every household. By bringing this topic to light, you have shown leadership and empathy. I encourage you to continue using your knowledge to benefit society."
Prizes were awarded to the top three teams for their creativity and impact. Faculty members including Mr. Sarwar Razzaq Chowdhury and Professor Dr. Shamsad Ahmed were also present.
Over the years, the Ingenious Marketing Club has built a reputation for addressing social issues through marketing-driven campaigns, including past initiatives on anti-drug awareness and anti-harassment. This latest effort reinforces the club's commitment to using marketing for social good.
