Jamaat will never come to power until the end of times: BNP's Gayeshwar
The BNP leader has criticised Jamaat for its position during the 1971 Liberation War
Jamaat-e-Islami will never come to power in Bangladesh, not even until the end of times, BNP Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy said today (20 July), reports BBC Bangla.
"I know for sure that Jamaat will never come to state power till Qayamat. Other parties may come, but they never will," he told reporters after attending a BNP event in Srinagar, Munshiganj.
Responding to questions about Jamaat's recently announced seven-point agenda, Gayeshwar said, "These so-called agendas are nothing but tactics to disrupt the election. They can't accept the idea of the Awami League being out of the picture and BNP returning to power."

Referring to Jamaat's historical stance, the BNP leader criticised its position during the 1971 Liberation War.
"They opposed the movement against [West] Pakistan. Even in Pakistan, Jamaat have never won a seat. Jamaat exists in India too, not just Bangladesh — but they have always been out of touch with public sentiment. Those who don't understand the people's language can never achieve their goals."
Speaking about calls to ban political parties, including the Awami League, the BNP leader said,
"If crimes were committed by Awami League leaders, punish them individually. If all political parties are banned, how can democracy survive? First it was 'no Awami League,' then 'no BNP' — are we now to accept rule by the so-called 'razakars' of 1971 and remain silent? That's impossible."
