ICT orders probe into Uttara mass killing to be completed by 23 September

The International Crimes Tribunal has extended the deadline for the investigation into the Uttara mass killing during the July uprising by two months, directing the agency to complete the probe and submit its report by 23 September.
The order was issued today (20 July) by the three-member bench of Tribunal-1, chaired by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Majumdar.
Among the ten accused is former Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), Atiqul Islam.
Earlier in the day, police produced nine of the ten accused before the tribunal. Alongside Atiqul Islam, the accused include: Md Shahinur Mia, education secretary of Uttara East Thana Awami League, Md Bashir Uddin, president of Uttara Sector-6 Awami League, Delwar Hossain, president of Ward-1 Jubo League, Dhaka North, Monowar Islam Chowdhury, president of Uttara West Thana Awami League, Abdullah Al Mamun, organising secretary of Gazipur Metropolitan Awami League.
During the hearing, Prosecutor Md Saimum Reza Talukder appeared on behalf of the prosecution and sought an extension to continue the investigation. The tribunal granted the request and set a new deadline for the report.
The tribunal had initially set 20 July as the deadline for submitting the investigation report, as per an earlier order issued on 12 May by the same bench.
