The Students Against Discrimination (SAD) Chattogram city Member Secretary Nizam Uddin has been reinstated to his organisational position after the withdrawal of a suspension order that followed allegations of a Tk2 crore extortion attempt.

In a press release issued today (17 July) and signed by SAD Central Organising Secretary Muinul Islam, the organisation announced that an internal review found Nizam's response to the allegations satisfactory.

Additionally, several accusations were withdrawn, and the remaining claims were deemed to have "lost significance due to lack of sufficient evidence."

As a result, the organisation has decided to fully restore Nizam Uddin to his previous responsibilities. The statement also mentioned that Nizam has been cautioned to strictly adhere to the organisation's policies and code of conduct in the future.

Earlier on 5 July, a woman named Riyazul Jannat filed a formal complaint with Chattogram Metropolitan Police Commissioner Hasib Aziz, alleging that Nizam Uddin had demanded Tk2 crore extortion from her husband Naoshed Jamal.

According to her statement, when the money was not paid, her husband was allegedly framed in a criminal case.

Just two days prior, on 3 July, police arrested Naoshed Jamal — resident of Bagmoniram South area of the city — on undisclosed charges.

Following the complaint and media coverage, public reaction to the allegations was swift and critical, triggering widespread discussions around SAD's internal accountability.

In response to the growing backlash, the central leadership of SAD suspended Nizam Uddin later that evening on grounds of violating organisational rules and ethics.

He was also served a show-cause notice, with a three-working-day deadline to explain why he should not be permanently expelled from the organisation.

With today's decision, SAD has attempted to close the chapter on the controversy, while also reiterating its commitment to internal discipline and transparency.
