Director General of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Maj Gen Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui today (10 July) expressed his firm belief that the newly inducted BGB soldiers will protect every inch of the country's land even at the cost of their lives.

"They will provide impenetrable security, allowing people to sleep peacefully. These young soldiers will be symbols of trust and security at the borders," the BGB chief said at the parade ground named after Bir Uttam Mojibur Rahman.

He was addressing the concluding ceremony of the 103rd recruit batch at the BGB's training institution, Border Guard Training Centre and College (BGT C&C) in Baitul Izzat, Satkania.

Maj Gen Siddiqui emphasised that the force's image and reputation depend on the honesty, dedication and professionalism of its young soldiers deployed along the borders.

He urged them never to turn their backs on opposing border forces under any circumstances.

The ceremony began at 9:30am with the BGB chief receiving a formal salute from the recruits, marking the start of their oath-taking and the concluding parade.

Following the salute, he delivered his directive-filled speech to the newly inducted soldiers.

Highlighting the vital role of BGB, he said the force, known as the "vigilant sentinels of the border," has been safeguarding the country's 4,427-kilometre-long border with efficiency.

"BGB has been instrumental in curbing cross-border crimes including smuggling of drugs and arms, and preventing human trafficking, while also playing a vital role in supporting the civil administration in maintaining internal law and order," Maj Gen Siddiqui added.

He urged the recruits to internalise and uphold the four core values of BGB – morale, brotherhood, discipline, and efficiency – and to carry out their duties with utmost discipline and responsibility.

Congratulating the recruits on stepping into their new roles, Maj Gen Siddiqui made a special mention of the female soldiers, praising their determination and courage.

"Bangladeshi women played a valiant role during the Liberation War. Today, these young female soldiers are stepping forward to protect the sovereignty of the nation. I am confident they will contribute actively to all aspects of BGB's operations with honesty, integrity, and competence," said the BGB DG.

Following his address, the he presented crests to the top-performing recruits of the batch, including the best all-rounder.

The ceremony concluded with a salute by the smartly turned-out new recruits.

Senior officials of the BGB, army personnel from Chattogram and Cox's Bazar regions, local civil and police administration, public representatives, distinguished guests and members of the print and electronic media attended the event.
