The National Consensus Commission resumed talks today after a three-day break, aiming to reach agreement on key recommendations from the interim government’s reform commissions and draft the proposed "July Charter"

The 11th day of the second phase of talks between the National Consensus Commission and political parties commenced this morning (10 July), with the appointment of the chief justice on top of the agenda list alongside discussions on the caretaker government and state of emergency provisions.

The meeting officially started at 10:30am at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital. 

The session is being presided over by the commission's Vice-Chairman Professor Ali Riaz. Other members of the commission present at the meeting include Justice Emdadul Haque, Dr Badiul Alam Majumder, Dr Md Ayub Mia, Dr Iftekharuzzaman and Sofor Raj Hossain, along with Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Monir Haider.

Representatives of 30 political parties, including the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP), Gono Odhikar Parishad, Gana Sanghati, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Biplobi Workers Party and Amar Bangladesh (AB) Party, are participating in today's session.

The National Consensus Commission resumed talks today after a three-day break, aiming to reach agreement on key recommendations from the interim government's reform commissions and draft the proposed "July Charter".

Earlier meetings between the commission and political parties discussed several structural reforms, including the term limits for the prime minister, the presidential election system, principles of state governance, and the formation of an independent commission for redrawing parliamentary constituency boundaries.

Following the meeting, National Consensus Commission Vice Chairman Professor Ali Riaz is scheduled to brief the media formally. Representatives of the political parties are also expected to hold briefings afterwards.
