The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed two separate cases against former Khulna City Corporation (KCC) mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque and his wife, former deputy minister of Environment and Forests Habibun Nahar, over allegations of acquiring illegal wealth worth over Tk17 crore.

Rakibul Islam, assistant director of ACC, said that he filed the cases as plaintiff with the ACC's Khulna Integrated District Office.

Investigation findings revealed that Abdul Khaleque amassed illegal assets worth Tk15.57 crore during his tenure as mayor of KCC, he said.

The ACC found a total of Tk 17.86 crore worth assets under his name, of which he failed to provide a legitimate source for Tk15.57 crore.

In the second case, his wife Habibun Nahar is accused of illegally acquiring Tk1.66 crore while serving as a public servant.

The ACC found a total of Tk5.61 crore in her name, but she could not explain the source of Tk1.66 crore, which is deemed illegal.

Both cases were filed under Section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2004, he added.
