BB to raise Tk25cr fund for July uprising victims
Of the total fund, Bangladesh Bank will contribute Tk14 crore from its own resources, while 11 selected banks will each provide Tk1 crore
The Bangladesh Bank has taken the initiative to create a special fund of Tk25 crore for the families of those killed and the treatment of those injured in the 2024 July mass uprising.
The decision was made at a meeting held at the central bank today (8 July), sources familiar with the matter told The Business Standard.
Of the total fund, Bangladesh Bank will contribute Tk14 crore from its own resources, while 11 selected banks will each provide Tk1 crore.

Sources said BB Governor Ahsan H Mansur chaired a meeting this afternoon with the managing directors of all commercial banks. Prior to the meeting, the governor held a separate discussion with the MDs of 11 banks that have shown strong performance on various indicators. During that discussion, he urged them to contribute Tk1 crore each to the fund, to which they agreed.
The participating banks will now seek approval from their respective boards before transferring the pledged funds to the central bank.
