Touhid to leave for Malaysia to attend ASEAN Regional Forum meeting

Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain is scheduled to leave Dhaka for Kuala Lumpur tomorrow (8 July) to attend the 32nd ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), aimed at promoting peace and security in the Asia-Pacific region through dialogue and cooperation.

The ARF meeting will take place on 10-11 July in the Malaysian capital, with the foreign affairs adviser expected to return home on 12 July, a senior official of the foreign ministry told BSS today. 

Bangladesh, which became an official partner of the ARF in 2006, actively participates in the multilateral security forum to advance regional peace, stability, and cooperation. 

The country was formally admitted to the ARF during the inaugural session of its thirteenth Annual Ministerial Meeting held in Kuala Lumpur on 28 July 2006.

Established in 1994, following the decision taken at the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting and Post Ministerial Conference in Singapore in 1993, the ARF serves as a key platform for diverse nations to engage in discussions on regional security issues and to build mutual trust among partners in the Asia-Pacific region.

Foreign ministry officials said Bangladesh's participation at the ARF reflects its commitment to regional peace, security, and constructive dialogue, aligning with its broader foreign policy objectives.
