Dhaka Bank sponsor Abdul Wahed to gift wife 1.03cr shares

Abdul Wahed, a sponsor of Dhaka Bank, has expressed his intention to transfer 1.03 crore shares of the bank to his wife, Zaheda Wahed Khan, a general shareholder of the company, according to a disclosure published on the stock exchange today.
Considering the current trading price, the value of the shares stands at Tk11.56 crore as Dhaka Bank's shares closed at Tk11.20 each today, which is 6.67% higher than the previous trading session.
According to the disclosure, Wahed will transfer the shares by way of gift outside the trading system of the exchange within the next 30 working days from the date of issuance of the approval letter by the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE).
In 2024, Dhaka Bank recommended a 5% cash and 5% stock dividend for its shareholders.
The bank has reported a consolidated earnings per share (EPS) of Tk1.27 in 2024, which was Tk1.66 in 2023.
The bank said it has recommended a stock dividend to strengthen its capital base under Basel-III, which will be utilised for the expansion of business, in a disclosure during the dividend declaration.
Upon application of stock dividend, on 30 June, the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) allowed the bank for declaring dividend for the year ended on 31 December 2024.
The declared dividend is to be approved in its annual general meeting (AGM) scheduled for 31 July through the digital platform.
In the first quarter of 2025, Dhaka Bank reported an 11.65% growth in its operating income to Tk446 crore, up from Tk399.82 crore in the same period of the previous year.
Its net profit increased by 10.62% to Tk84 during January to March 2025, with an earnings per share (EPS) of Tk0.84.
As of May, out of Dhaka Bank's total shares, sponsor-directors held 44%, institutional investors 12.45%, and general shareholders held 43.55%.
