A herd of wild elephants entered the area from nearby forested hills, damaging crops and spreading panic among villagers

A 24-year-old farmer was killed in a wild elephant attack in the Ghonapara area of Charati Union under Chattogram's Satkania Upazila last night (4 July).
The deceased, Sadek Hossain, was the son of Abul Hossain, a resident of the same locality.
According to Md Ali, local Union Parishad member, a herd of wild elephants entered the area from nearby forested hills, damaging crops and spreading panic among villagers.
"Sadek was returning home from the local market at around 10:30pm when one of the elephants attacked him," Ali said.
Locals rescued him in critical condition and took him to Banshkhali Upazila Health Complex, but he died on the way.
His body was buried at the community graveyard this morning (5 July) without an autopsy or official police inquiry.
Meanwhile, Satkania Police Station Officer-in-Charge Jahedul Islam told The Business Standard, "After receiving information about the farmer's death, we visited the site. The locals had already buried the body before we arrived."
No case of unnatural death was filed. However, the police have recorded a general diary regarding the incident for official documentation, he added.
