Huawei highlights 5g-a and ai convergence at shanghai summit

At the Mobile Broadband Forum (MBBF) Top Talk Summit, held during MWC Shanghai 2025, around 150 top executives from telecom firms, AI innovators and academic leaders gathered to explore the transformative potential of deep convergence between the ICT and AI industries.

David Wang, Executive Director of Huawei's Board, opened the session by outlining three ways mobile AI is redefining the industry: "Mobile devices are evolving beyond apps to host AI agents that enhance daily life and work; AI is merging with IoT to form a new gateway to the intelligent world; and AI is now driving network efficiency across spectrum, energy and operations."

Wang urged the industry to unlock the full potential of 5G-Advanced (5G-A) by working together on five key fronts: expanding uplink capacity, strengthening device ecosystems, enabling multimodal intelligent services, enhancing IoT capabilities across all scenarios, and creating diverse business models.

The convergence of 5G-A and AI is already reshaping sectors such as manufacturing, where low latency and high bandwidth enable embodied AI to manage real-time data for high-precision sensing and informed decision-making. This supports the full cycle of sensing, decision and execution, reducing risks while improving productivity.

Commercially, 5G-A is enabling operators to monetise premium experiences. From immersive sports streaming to cloud gaming, users are increasingly willing to pay for quality-of-service guarantees. This shift from data volume to experience-based payment is opening up new revenue models.

Li Peng, Huawei's Senior Vice President and President of ICT Sales & Service, closed the event by highlighting the transformative power of 5G-A. "It will allow operators to deliver guaranteed network performance across diverse applications, helping them move beyond data traffic to monetise user experience directly," he said.

Li noted that AI agents are already supporting carriers in delivering tailored services to individuals, homes, businesses and mobile users. He stressed the need for new, AI-centric standards in network design to support this transformation and unlock new value.
Huawei is collaborating with global carriers, industry leaders, and experts to accelerate the commercial rollout of 5G-A and integrate AI innovation into telecom infrastructure, services, and operations.
