Titas gas engages market ahead of 1.1m smart meter tender

Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company PLC today organised an Early Market Engagement (EME) session to gather market feedback ahead of the procurement of 1.1 million smart prepaid gas meters.
Held at the company's head office conference room, the event was part of the ongoing "Gas Sector Efficiency Improvement and Carbon Abatement Project", jointly funded by the World Bank, the Government of Bangladesh, and Titas Gas's resources.
The EME aimed to facilitate market analysis, initiate communication with potential stakeholders, and share technical and operational details with interested bidders, suppliers, and manufacturers before launching the tender process. The event also provided an open platform for participants to give feedback on project scope, implementation challenges, and technical specifications.
Over 100 representatives from local and international organisations attended the session, alongside a delegation from the World Bank.
Titas Gas officials stated that the rollout of smart prepaid meters will help reduce system losses, improve billing accuracy, and promote energy efficiency through user-level awareness of consumption. The 1.1 million meter procurement marks one of the most significant initiatives of its kind in the country's gas distribution sector.
According to officials, insights gained from this engagement will be incorporated into the upcoming tender documentation, ensuring transparency, efficiency and alignment with international best practices.
The World Bank delegation expressed its support for the initiative and praised Titas Gas for taking a proactive approach to stakeholder engagement ahead of central procurement.
The EME concluded with a Q&A session between technical experts and attending organisations, focusing on installation timelines, payment systems, maintenance protocols, and data security.
