Bulbul's Advisory Committee clouded in questions

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Aminul Islam Bulbul is facing criticism over the appointment of a three-member Advisory Committee, which appears to breach the board's constitution.

The committee—comprising hospitality industry expert Shakawath Hossain, sports media analyst Syed Abid Hussain Sami, and legal expert Shyikh Mahadi—was announced in a BCB press release on Thursday. However, none of the members are renowned cricketers or cricket organisers, as required by Clause 18 of Chapter Four of the BCB constitution.

Bulbul has admitted the appointments do not align with the constitution, calling them "need-based" and suggesting discussions with the National Sports Council to resolve the issue.

He claimed the appointments would support long-term goals such as cricket tourism and digital promotion on social media, but critics argue these are distractions from more urgent cricketing matters. With BCB elections expected in October, many question the timing and relevance of these decisions.

Bulbul's approach echoes criticisms levelled at his predecessor Faruque Ahmed, who was removed over poor domestic management and the national team's struggles. Rather than addressing structural reforms—such as decentralising power from Dhaka-based clubs—Bulbul's actions risk repeating the same mistakes.

Despite leadership changes, the BCB appears to be following old patterns—raising more questions than delivering solutions.
