The EC will hold its 7th meeting at its office in the city's Agargaon area at 11:00am tomorrow with Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin in the chair, according to officials.
Speaking to reporters today, Election Commission (EC) Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said, "I cannot comment on the election date today. We have a commission meeting tomorrow. If any decision comes out of that, I will inform you then."
Earlier on 15 June, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin said in response to a media query, "Whether the national election takes place in February or April—we must be prepared. We were earlier told the timeline would range from December to June, so we are preparing accordingly and progressing with that in mind."
Regarding upcoming tasks, the CEC said the Voter List Act is set to be amended and the finalisation of the voter list is nearly complete.
Major responsibilities still lie ahead, such as the registration of political parties and the delimitation of parliamentary constituencies, he said.
Following the final EC meeting before Eid-ul-Adha, Election Commissioner Abul Fazl Md Sanaullah told reporters that the commission had received 607 applications from various individuals requesting the redrawing of 75 parliamentary constituencies.
"This was only presented at today's meeting," he had said, adding that detailed discussions will take place after Eid.
