Govt to increase vigilance on highways
A project worth Tk 240 crore has been approved to increase surveillance on 3,000 km roads and highways.
The government has taken initiative to increase vigilance on the highway police, drivers and passengers.
Police high-ups have suggested using modern technologies including closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras to increase surveillance on 3,000 km roads and highways.
Superintendent of Bogura Highway Police Mohammad Jahangir Hossain said a project worth Tk 240 crore has been approved in this regard.

"The location of the drivers, passengers, policemen and necessary information will be available immediately after the implementation of the project," the SP added.
Currently, around 2,800 policemen are working at 72 highway police stations and outposts. They are using alcohol detectors, speed guns and radio frequency identification devices (RFIDs).
"Modern speed guns are being used to detect the speed of the speeding vehicles and RFDIs are being used to verify papers," he added.
Bogura Kundarhat Highway Police's In-charge Kajal Kumar Nandi said it takes only two to five seconds to collect information about any motor vehicle using the RFID technology.
He also said: "Before using the speed gun, we faced difficulties to file cases against the drivers. Now the drivers are happy too for this time saving technology."
