Over 91 lakh animals sacrificed this Eid, down by 13 lakh from last year
Government data also shows that this year saw over 33 lakh sacrificial animals unsold
More than 91 lakh animals were sacrificed across the country during this Eid-ul-Adha, marking a drop of some 13 lakh animals compared to last year, according to data released by the Department of Livestock Services.
As per Livestock Services data, a total of 91,36,734 animals were sacrificed across the country during this Eid. Of the animals, 47.05 lakh were cows/buffaloes, 44.30 lakh were goats/sheep, and 960 were others.
Last year, a total of 1,04,08,918 animals were sacrificed.

Meanwhile, government data also shows that this year saw over 33 lakh sacrificial animals unsold.
The Livestock Services attributed the decrease in sales to increased production.
Data shows that the least number of animals were sacrificed in the Sylhet Division this time, with 3,19,823 animals slaughtered. Sylhet was followed by the Mymensingh Division with 3,83,162 animals sacrificed.
The largest number of animals was sacrificed in the Rajshahi Division – 23,24,971 cattle.
Dhaka Division took the second place with 21,85,40 animals sacrificed. Chattogram Division saw 17,53,732 cattle sacrificed. In Khulna Division, 8,04,224 cattle were sacrificed.
