Elections cannot be held in April; must be conducted by December: Salahuddin 

BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has said considering the circumstances, organising the national election in April next year is in no way possible.

Arrangements must be made to hold the national election by this December, he said on Monday evening during a visit to the Cox's Bazar District BNP office while exchanging Eid greetings with party leaders and activists, reports Desh Rupantor.

Salahuddin Ahmed said that given the environmental conditions, weather, exams, and Ramadan during the election timeline set by the interim government is not suitable for national elections by any means. 

During that time, public examinations take place in the country, so no educational institutions can be used for election purposes, he added. "It is reasonable that no election campaigning can be conducted during exams."

Since the election schedule allows 45 days after announcement, and half of Ramadan will fall within that period, organising the election then would be impossible, he added.

Salahuddin  said BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman led the anti-fascist movement to victory, reports Prothom Alo.

"Under his leadership, we have been able to free Bangladesh from fascism. We will continue to advance democratic practices to ensure that no fascist regime can ever take hold in Bangladesh again. That is why we are still calling for the establishment of a political government in Bangladesh through a fair election as soon as possible, in the interest of democracy," he said during the inauguration ceremony of the Pekua upazila BNP's central office in Cox's Bazar. 

Earlier, he had inaugurated the newly established Pekua upazila BNP office at Pekua Chowmuhani.
