Several secretaries, including the land secretary, met with the cabinet secretary this morning and briefed him on the demands of the protesting Secretariat officials
Secretaries in charge have presented the demands of protesting Secretariat officials regarding the cancellation of the Public Service (Amendment) Ordinance 2025 to the Cabinet Secretary Sheikh Abdur Rashid.
The cabinet secretary will inform the Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus about the employees' demands when he returns to the country, said Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Land ASM Saleh Ahmed this morning (28 May).
He said several secretaries, including himself, met with the cabinet secretary this morning. They briefed him on the matters discussed in meetings with the protesting officials yesterday (27 May).
Afterwards, the land secretary told reporters that they had informed the cabinet secretary about the officials' concerns and the discussions.
The cabinet secretary cannot make a decision on this matter at present. Therefore, he will present the issue to the chief adviser, added Saleh Ahmed.
During yesterday's meeting with the secretaries, leaders of the protesting Secretariat officials demanded the complete cancellation of the Public Service (Amendment) Ordinance 2025.
The chief adviser is currently in Japan on a state visit and is scheduled to return to the country on 31 May.
The protesting officials will meet with the land secretary this afternoon to discuss his conversation with the cabinet secretary. They will then inform other officials about this matter.
The government employees, who are demanding the scrapping of recent amendments to the Public Service Act that allow easier dismissal for misconduct, suspended their protest at the Secretariat yesterday.
The decision came after ASM Saleh Ahmed, the senior secretary of the Ministry of Land, held a meeting with protest leaders and assured that the government would come up with a final decision on the matter following a meeting with the cabinet secretary.
The officials had been protesting at the Secretariat since Saturday, demanding the cancellation of the Public Service (Amendment) Ordinance 2025.
