Local Government Division awaits HC directive on Ishraque's swearing-in as matter still sub-judice
As no action was seemingly taken by the ministry, Ishraque filed a fresh writ petition in the High Court on 25 May seeking directions to be sworn in as mayor
Amid ongoing protests at the Nagar Bhaban, the Local Government Division (LGD) has disclosed that it is awaiting the High Court's verdict before proceeding with BNP leader Ishraque Hossain's oath-taking as the Dhaka South City Corporation mayor.
On 22 May, the High Court dismissed a writ petition regarding the swearing-in of Ishraque as Dhaka South mayor and the LGD had begun necessary preparations for the oath-taking ceremony, reads a press release issued by the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives yesterday (26 May).
However, as no action was seemingly taken by the ministry, Ishraque filed a fresh writ petition in the High Court on 25 May seeking directions to be sworn in as mayor.

Furthermore, on 26 May, another citizen submitted a leave to appeal at the Appellate Division challenging the High Court 22 May order dismissing another writ that challenged the declaration regarding Ishraque's election as mayor.
As a result, the matter has now become sub judice in the country's Supreme Court. Therefore, the LGD is currently awaiting the court's verdict before proceeding with Ishraque's oath-taking as mayor, read the release.
