The investigation committee formed by Dhaka University (DU) submitted its report on the murder of Shahriar Alam Shammo, a Chhatra Dal leader, to the university authorities.

The report was handed over to Vice-Chancellor Niaz Ahmed Khan at the VC's office today (26 May), said a press release issued by the university's Public Relations Office.

Prof Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan, dean of the Faculty of Arts and convener of the probe committee, submitted the report to the VC.

Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed and Assistant Proctor Sharmin Kabir, also the member secretary of the committee, were present.

Necessary actions will be taken in line with university regulations after reviewing the report, said the press release.

Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed said, "The VC received the report today. A decision will be made after consulting all concerned tomorrow (27 May)."

Dhaka University had earlier formed a seven-member committee to investigate the murder. Later, Barrister Nurul Azim was co-opted as an additional member.

Shariful Islam, the elder brother of the victim, filed a case with Shahbagh Police Station on 14 May. Police have so far arrested six suspects in connection with the case.

Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khalid Mansur said the case has been transferred to the Detective Branch (DB) for further investigation.

Shammo was critically injured after being stabbed at Suhrawardy Udyan on the night of 13 May. He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around midnight, where doctors declared him dead.

He was a student of the Institute of Education and Research (IER) under the 2018–19 academic session and served as the literary and publication affairs secretary of Chhatra Dal's AF Rahman Hall unit.
