A group of demonstrators held a "March for Yunus" rally in Shahbagh today (24 May), demanding that Chief Adviser of the interim government Muhammad Yunus be appointed president and remain in power for the next five years.

The organisers, rallying under the banner of "Desher Sorbostorer Jonogon" [People from All Walks of Life] also called for the formation of a national government with participation from all oppressed political parties.

The event took place in front of the National Museum in Shahbagh this afternoon.

Their other demands include amending the constitution and ensuring justice for the July killings.

During the event, the organisers and participants chanted a range of slogans, including "Yunus, unite the nation, save Bangladesh," "Reform first, elections later," "Who are you, who am I? Yunus, Yunus!" and "Not Delhi, but Dhaka."
