A Dhaka court today (24 May) issued a travel ban on National Bank board director Monowara Sikder along with 14 other individuals.

Senior Special Judge of Dhaka Metropolitan, Md Zakir Hossain Galib, passed the order following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Akterul Islam, deputy director of the ACC's Public Relations Department confirmed the matter.

The individuals facing the ban include Mohammad Sharifuzzaman Khan, managing director of Broadway Real Estate Ltd; Chairman Md Ismail; directors Mohammad Fazle Rabbi and Tawsif Saifullah; former Deputy Managing Director Syed Rois Uddin; Managing Director of Desh Television Arif Hasan; Company Secretary of National Bank ASM Bulbul; former Additional Managing Directors MA Wadud and Chowdhury Mostaq Ahmed; former Director Parveen Haque Sikder; Director Moazzem Hossain; former Directors Khalilur Rahman and Mabrur Hossain and former Sub-Registrar Md Rajob Ali.

According to the ACC's petition, the individuals allegedly collaborated to illegally amass over Tk 178 crore and embezzled Tk 490 crore through fraudulent loans from National Bank without proper documentation.

The ACC is currently investigating the allegations, with formal graft cases already filed. The Commission emphasized that the travel ban is necessary to ensure the integrity of the investigation and prevent the suspects from fleeing abroad.
