A Dhaka court today (24 May) imposed a travel ban on former member of parliament (MP) from Sherpur-1 constituency Atiur Rahman Atiq and his wife Shantana Begum.

Senior Special Judge of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Court Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Md Akhtarul Islam, Deputy Director of the ACC's Public Relations Division, said.

According to the petition, the ACC is currently investigating several allegations of corruption against Atiur Rahman Atiq and his family members, including amassing illegal wealth and acquiring properties beyond known sources of income.

The commission informed the court that the accused might attempt to leave the country to evade the investigation. Therefore, the ACC requested a travel ban to prevent disruption of the ongoing investigation.
