Police uncovered an illegal juice manufacturing operation running out of a rented house in the Bakalia area of Chattogram city last night (19 May).

Acting on a tip-off, a team from Bakalia Police Station conducted a raid, seizing a large quantity of counterfeit juice and production equipment. One individual was arrested during the operation.

The arrested man has been identified as Mizanur Rahman, 26, son of the late Habibul Islam from Chakaria, Cox's Bazar. He had been residing in the rented house where the fake juice factory was operating.

According to police, Mizanur had established the unauthorised facility at a house in Khaleda's Colony, located in the Ansar Plot area near Shah Amanat Bridge.

Without any legal documents or licences, he was allegedly mixing harmful chemicals to produce various types of juice, which were then sold across different parts of the city.

During the raid, police seized counterfeit juice branded under several names, along with machinery used in the manufacturing process. The estimated value of the seized items is around Tk2.5 lakh.

Officer-in-Charge of Bakalia Police Station, Ikhtiar Hossain, said, "Based on secret information, the raid was carried out successfully. Legal action has been taken in this connection, and the accused has been sent to jail following court procedures."

He added that further investigation is underway to identify other individuals who may have been involved in the operation and to determine the extent of distribution of the counterfeit products.
