Police detained at least three individuals from a flash procession brought out by banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in Chattogram's Karnaphuli upazila yesterday (16 May).
BCL, the student wing of the recently banned Awami League, reportedly brought out a flash procession around 11:30pm last night at Sultan Baper Bari area of Ward No-7 under Juldha Union in the upazila, eyewitnesses said.
Muhammad Sharif, officer-in-charge of Karnaphuli Police Station, said, "We launched an operation as soon as we received the report. Several people have been detained, and the operation is ongoing. Further details will be shared later."
Eyewitnesses reported that a group of 12 to 15 youths marched for approximately three to four minutes chanting slogans including "Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu" and "Sheikh Hasina will return home, like a hero."
Videos of the event reportedly circulated on Facebook, drawing the attention of local authorities.
The procession was reportedly led by Faisal, nephew of Md Musa, the ex-president of Juldha Union Chhatra League, and son of Mohammad Noor, an Awami League leader arrested earlier on 11 February.
Following the incident, members from Karnaphuli Police Station launched a drive and detained three individuals, including 22-year-old Farhan, son of Abdul Malek alias Ghora Malek, who was recently arrested.
The identities of the other two detainees have not yet been confirmed.
