The National Citizen Party (NCP) officially launched its youth wing "Jatiya Jubo Shakti" today (16 May) in front of the banned Awami League's central office at Shaheed Abrar Fahad Avenue in Dhaka, previously known as Bangabandhu Avenue.

Although the event was scheduled to begin at 3pm, it commenced at 4:40pm with a recitation from the Holy Quran.

NCP Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari announced a 131-member committee, comprising representatives from all 64 districts.

NCP Joint Chief Coordinator (Youth) Advocate Tariqul Islam has been appointed as the convenor and Joint Member Secretary Dr Jahedul Islam as the member secretary of the new youth wing.

Besides, Joint Chief Coordinators Tuhin Mahbub and Nahida Bushra will serve as the senior joint convenor and senior member secretary, respectively. Joint Chief Organiser (North Dutee Aranya Chowdhury will also serve as the senior member secretary.

Speaking at the event, Nasiruddin Patwari said, "With the vision of transforming Bangladesh into a strong state in South Asia, we began the Shaheed Abrar Study Circle. Following that, we formed Chhatra Shakti and led a mass uprising with support from all parties.

"Today's Jatiya Jubo Shakti is a continuation of that movement. Now, we are organising ourselves across all sectors — from workers to expatriates," he added.

Joint Chief Coordinator Abdul Hannan Masud said, "This platform will bring a new dimension to politics, supporting training, financial independence, and the development of social values."

Speaking about the ongoing movement by Jagannath University students, Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain said, "The demands of Jagannath's teachers and students must be accepted without delay."

Regarding India's concerns over the potential banning of the Awami League, Akhtar stated, "India must respect Bangladesh's democracy. It should sever ties with the Awami League and instead build relations with the people of Bangladesh. Decisions about Bangladesh's politics must be made by its citizens — there is no room for foreign interference."

Joint Chief Coordinator (Youth) Advocate Tariqul Islam, along with other senior leaders, were also present on stage.

Supporters and activists began gathering at the venue from early afternoon. Despite the delay, enthusiastic participants from across the country arrived in processions, chanting slogans and waving banners.

Abul Hossain, who joined the rally from Keraniganj, told The Business Standard, "We want to rebuild the country with a new vision. That's why our presence on the streets is important.

"This youth organisation will not function like typical wings of political parties. It is a platform for shaping the future of the country's youth."

Speaking earlier at a press conference on 13 May, NCP Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari said after forming the party, we will begin efforts to unite the youth across all 64 districts, aiming to "shape a new Bangladesh.

"More than 40% of Bangladesh's population is young. If we want to change the country's destiny, there is no alternative to uniting this group," he said, expressing hope that Jatiya Jubo Shakti would become a milestone for youth mobilisation.
