21 August Grenade Attack: Hearing on leave to appeal over acquittal of Tarique, others postponed till 26 May

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has postponed the hearing on two separate leave to appeal requests by the state over a verdict by the High Court acquitting BNP's Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, ex-state minister for home affairs Lutfuzzaman Babar and others from the 21 August Grenade Attack case till 26 May.
A six-member bench of the Appellate Division led by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed announced the postponement after conducting a hearing this morning (15 May).
Additional Attorney General Abdul Jabbar Bhuiyan and Aneek R Haque represented the state during the hearing. Senior lawyers SM Shahjahan and Mohammad Shishir Monir represented the defence.

Earlier on 1 December 2024, an HC bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Enayet Hossain acquitted Tarique, Babar and others in the 21 August Grenade Attack case.
On 19 December, the full verdict was published, following which the state submitted two separate leave to appeal requests.
On 13 March, the chamber judge court of the Appellate Division sent the leave to appeal requests to the full bench for a hearing.
