Tarique urges vigilance so no one can conspire to monopolise voting rights

Tarique Rahman, the acting chairperson of BNP, has called on everyone to remain vigilant so that no one can conspire to monopolise the right to vote.

He made the remark today (10 May) while virtually joining a party event organised to exchange greetings with Buddhist community members on the occasion of Buddha Purnima.

Tarique said, "Through direct voting by the citizens, the BNP wants to establish a democratic government in the country — one that is accountable to the people.

"However, until such a democratic government accountable to the people is established, we must all remain alert and vigilant so that no one can conspire to seize our democratic political rights and voting rights. Today, I appeal to everyone to do so."

He further said, "Being a minority or a majority is not an identity. Regardless of party, ideology, or religion, the first and foremost proud identity of every citizen in this country is that we are Bangladeshis."

"It is the BNP's principle that every citizen, while preserving their own religious beliefs, culture, and uniqueness, should enjoy equal and fair rights in all areas of the state and society as a Bangladeshi," he added.

Tarique said his party, BNP, wants to see the interim government succeed.

He, however, said the BNP has been consistently calling upon the government from the very beginning to announce a clear roadmap or action plan so that the public has a transparent understanding of its activities.

"If people have a clear understanding of the government's operations, there will be no scope for confusion, suspicion, or misinformation," the BNP leader said.
