Construction of Bangladesh-China Friendship Hall for female DU students to begin soon
The hall, which will be built with financial support from China, will accommodate 1,500 students
The construction of the Bangladesh-China Friendship Hall at Dhaka University (DU) is set to commence soon, with financial support from the Chinese government.
The hall, intended to provide accommodation for 1,500 female students, marks a significant step in strengthening educational infrastructure at the university, said a press release of the university today (8 May).
According to DU authorities, the Chinese authorities, through Bangladesh's Ministry of Education, formally requested DU on 30 April to submit project-related information in a prescribed format. The university responded on 6 May, fulfilling the requirements. Following verification, construction work is expected to begin shortly.

The project received approval from the Socio-Economic Infrastructure Division of the Planning Commission on 11 March. It has also been included in the Revised Annual Development Programme (RADP) for the 2024–2025 fiscal year as a foreign-aided initiative.
In addition to this project, DU has plans to construct four more dormitories for female students and five for male students. These developments, with an estimated budget of Tk2,841 crore, aim to provide accommodation for 3,000 female and 5,100 male students.
Simultaneously, 168 old and dilapidated buildings on campus will be renovated under the Dhaka University Buildings Renovation, Conservation, and Beautification Project, with an estimated cost of Tk1,515 crore.
