A man aged over 50 has been accused of raping a three-year-old girl in Dumuria upazila of Khulna.

The incident took place at the child's neighbour's house in Kusharhula village of Bhandarpara union of the upazila around 9am today (8 May). She is currently admitted to the One Stop Crisis Centre (OCC) at Khulna Medical College Hospital.

The accused has been identified as Ujjal Gain, son of Bikash Gaini, a resident of the same village.

The child's uncle stated that there was a wedding ceremony at the neighbour's house today. The child went to that house in the morning, where Ujjal Gain allegedly took her inside and raped her. At one point, the child's mother went to search for her and rescued her from the house in a bloody state, after which she was taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital.

"Her condition is so critical," the child's uncle added.

Contacted, Dumuria Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Masud Rana said, "We have not received any news yet. We are going to the hospital and making inquiries."
