The next conference of the Climate Vulnerable Forum will be held in 2021 commemorating "Mujib Borsho" (Mujib Year).

"Chair of the Global Centre on Adaptation and ex-UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon said this today [Wednesday] when he phoned Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the afternoon," PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told the media.

The press secretary also said Ban Ki-moon made the phone call to the prime minister at around 6:10pm and talked to her for nearly 12 minutes on different issues, including the CVF conference and the Global Centre on Adaptation Conference.

Karim said the Global Centre on Adaptation Conference will be held in the second week of September next, and that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the conference while Ban Ki-moon will join it virtually.

The press secretary said the former UN secretary general highly appreciated the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in combating the coronavirus situation and super cyclone "Amphan" with courage.

In this connection, Ban Ki-moon opined that the people of Southeast Asia will have to be resilient so that they can tackle situations like the Covid-19 pandemic and cyclone Amphan.

The ex-UN secretary general extended his heartiest congratulations to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on her election as the CVF chair for the second time.

He also congratulated Saima Wazed Hossain, chairperson of the National Advisory Committee on Neurodevelopmental Disorders and Autism, as she has been made a "Thematic Ambassador" by the CVF.

At the outset of the talks, the prime minister and former UN secretary general exchanged greetings.

The prime minister thanked Ban Ki-moon for making the phone call to her, Karim added.

The CVF is a global partnership of 48 countries that are disproportionately affected by the consequences of global warming.

In December last year at the 25th Annual Conference of Parties, known as the UN Climate Change Conference, in Paris, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina accepted a proposal of Marshall Islands President Hilda Heine to take over the charge of the chair of CVF from this year.
