Chinese internet giant Tencent interested in entering Bangladesh market
Private equity firm OSIRIS Group also entering Bangladeshi market

Chinese internet giant Tencent has expressed interest in entering the Bangladeshi market, according to Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, special assistant to the chief adviser.
The announcement was made after an official meeting between the Bangladesh government and Tencent representatives on Monday.
In a Facebook post, Faiz said, "Today [28 April], we held an official meeting with Chinese giant Tencent, and they have shown interest in investing in Bangladesh. We have assured them of prompt policy support."
Founded in 1998, Tencent Holdings Limited is a Chinese multinational technology conglomerate and holding company that provides internet-related products and services, entertainment, artificial intelligence, and various tech services across the globe.
Tencent, which is headquartered in Shenzhen, is one of the highest-grossing multimedia companies in the world based on revenue. It is also the world's largest company in the video game industry based on its equity investments.
Faiz continued, "US tech giant Starlink has already arrived in Bangladesh, and the chief adviser approved their license application. The journey of welcoming big tech companies to Bangladesh has officially begun under the leadership of CA Yunus."
In addition, he mentioned that the OSIRIS Group is also entering the Bangladeshi market.
OSIRIS is a private equity firm that invests in seed to early-stage companies in logistics, IT, and e-commerce sectors, focusing on Asia.
Meanwhile, Bangladeshi data and cloud company Jatra is setting up hyperscaler cloud and data centres at Kaliakair Hi-Tech Park, said Faiz.
This world-class secured cloud setup is being developed for global tech giants, which could potentially host payloads from companies like Meta and Google, he added.
