Power gradually restored after blackout in 21 southern districts following national grid failure
The issue originated from the Aminbazar grid substation in Gopalganj

Power supply is being gradually restored across 21 districts in southern Bangladesh after a blackout struck the region following a technical failure at the national grid today (26 April).
"Electricity started returning around 9pm in most of the districts," Mohammad Haidar Ali, managing director (MD) of the West Zone Power Distribution Company Limited (WZPDCL), told The Business Standard.
He said the outage, which started at 5:48pm, was traced back to a problem at the Aminbazar grid substation in Gopalganj. "Efforts are still underway to normalise supply across all affected districts."

The blackout impacted key districts such as Khulna, Bagerhat, Satkhira, Jashore, Narail, Jhenaidah, Magura, Kushtia, Meherpur, and Chuadanga under Khulna Division; Faridpur, Rajbari, Madaripur, Shariatpur, and Gopalganj under Dhaka Division; and Barishal, Jhalakathi, Pirojpur, Patuakhali, Barguna, and Bhola under Barishal Division.
According to officials, the Aminbazar substation has become a vital hub for power transmission in the southwestern region, enhancing the reliability of electricity supply. It plays a crucial role in distributing electricity generated from the Rampal and Payra thermal power plants.
The Aminbazar substation, according to power officials, plays a vital role in transmitting electricity from major plants like Rampal and Payra. Friday's disruption exposed the vulnerability of the national grid, particularly as demands for electricity rise with the onset of summer.
