Tensions mount in BCB as Fahim replaces Moni amid umpiring controversy
Tensions remain high within the BCB as match officials have submitted a letter to the umpires' committee chairman refusing to sit with match referee Debabrata Paul, following a heated exchange during a meeting last Saturday.

Following the uproar surrounding the reduction of Towhid Hridoy's suspension — a decision that led to the resignation of Enamul Haque Moni as convener of the technical committee — Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director Nazmul Abedeen Fahim has been appointed as the new convener of the committee.
"Everything is now being referred to the technical committee. They will review all incidents and make decisions accordingly," said Iftekhar Ahmed Mithu, chairman of the umpires' committee, speaking to reporters at Mirpur today.
The umpires' committee recently found itself at the centre of controversy after approving a revised sanction table that allowed Hridoy to return after serving only a one-match suspension.
Mithu admitted that the committee had overstepped its authority. "We made a mistake, and the procedure was flawed. According to the rules, only the CCDM or its technical committee has the authority to reduce or waive suspensions," he conceded.
It has emerged that Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid Saikat, Bangladesh's only ICC Elite Panel umpire, threatened to quit officiating in domestic cricket in protest at how Hridoy's suspension was handled.
"Actually, it wasn't just Saikat. A number of umpires were dissatisfied with the developments. We spoke to them and clarified that the board maintains a policy of zero tolerance and any future decisions will strictly follow CCDM rules," Mithu explained.
Sources indicate that Saikat's final decision will depend on how the matter involving Hridoy is ultimately resolved. BCB insiders also revealed that the cricket operations department may issue a formal letter to Hridoy addressing his conduct.
Tensions remain high within the BCB as match officials have submitted a letter to the umpires' committee chairman refusing to sit with match referee Debabrata Paul, following a heated exchange during a meeting last Saturday.
"All the match referees have submitted a letter, as has Debabrata Paul. The umpires' committee will present these to the board at the next meeting to ensure such incidents do not recur. The board directors will determine the next steps," Mithu added.
