Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan on Tuesday inaugurated a mobile awareness van in Jashore aimed at promoting conservation of endangered wildlife, including the fishing cat, in the country's southwestern region.

"In order to protect animals like the fishing cat, we must foster compassion toward all wildlife. Awareness is key. We can only save these creatures if we treat them with empathy," she said while inaugurating the event.

The awareness van will travel across 21 districts in the southwestern region to spread messages on wildlife conservation and educate people from all walks of life.

She noted that many people kill fishing cats due to misconceptions.

"These animals are not harmful. In fact, they play an important role in maintaining ecological balance," she added.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Divisional Commissioner of Khulna, the Conservator of Forests from the Jashore Social Forestry Division, forest officials, representatives from environmental organizations, and members of the local administration.
