Shajahan Khan’s daughter files complaint with DGHS over false Covid-19 report

Oaishe Khan, daughter of former shipping minister and Awami League presidium member Shajahan Khan, sent a letter to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) complaining that she had been a given a false Covid-19 report.

She urged the director general of the DGHS to investigate the issue and take legal action against those responsible for this.

In her letter, Oaishe claimed that she had given her swab sample at Dhaka North City Corporation's Corona Isolation Centre in the capital's Mohakhali on July 24. 

The result came negative online on July 25, and the report collected from the centre showed the same result.

However, on July 26, Oaishe was stopped at Shahjalal International Airport from boarding a flight to London over inconsistencies in her Covid-19 test report. 

Oaishe wrote that she continued normal activities and went to the airport with her father as she knew she did not have the virus.

The certificate she produced at the airport said she had not been diagnosed with Covid-19 but the online database showed she had been tested positive.

However, the National Institute of Laboratory Medicine and Referral Centre which processed her result has now taken responsibility for issuing "a wrong result."
The institute's Director Professor Dr Abul Khair Mohammad Shamsuzzaman said at a press conference on Monday: "We had made a mistake."

"The report issued to Oaishe Khan stated that her result was negative when it actually was positive. She got the wrong report because of an error that our data entry operator made."

"We are looking into the incident and will conduct further investigations," Mohammad Shamsuzzaman said.

"The person who made the mistake had been hired temporarily. We will take action against him soon."
