Police arrested a bus driver and his assistant in Chattogram city following allegations of raping a teenage passenger after holding her hostage inside a bus.

The reported incident occurred on Tuesday (15 April), and the arrests were made on Wednesday (16 April), Chandgaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Aftab Uddin told The Business Standard.

Authorities are still searching for a third suspect, the bus supervisor named Mobarak, who remains at large.

OC Aftab said, "The victim, an approximately 14-year-old girl, was travelling from Cox's Bazar to Chattogram on the bus. Upon arriving at the Chandgaon Bus Terminal on Tuesday afternoon, all other passengers disembarked, but the driver, assistant, and supervisor allegedly prevented the girl from leaving and held her hostage.

"The perpetrators reportedly drove the bus around the city until evening, keeping the victim confined."

"After nightfall, the bus was parked on the Bahaddarhat-Kalurghat road near the terminal, where the three men allegedly took turns raping the girl until early Wednesday morning. Following the victim's complaint, police arrested Lokman and Hanif, who, along with Mobarak, confessed to the crime," OC Aftab added.

The victim has been admitted to the One-Stop Crisis Centre at Chattogram Medical College Hospital for medical treatment and support.

Police are continuing their operation to apprehend the fugitive supervisor, Mobarak.
