A farmer was stabbed to death in Rajshahi's Bagha upazila this evening (10 April) following a dispute over cutting the tops of corn plants.

The victim, identified as Shafiqul Islam, was attacked with a sharp weapon in the Char Kalidash Kali area of Chakrajapur Union, Bagha Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) AFM Asaduzzaman confirmed the matter.

"The body will be sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for an autopsy. Legal proceedings are underway regarding the incident," the OC added.

Bagha Upazila Health Complex on-duty doctor Kismat Ara Reshmi said the cause of death was excessive blood loss.

According to locals, Shafiqul went to a field in the afternoon to collect grass for his cattle. While there, he began cutting the tops of corn plants on land belonging to another villager, Gias Uddin.

Upon witnessing this, Gias confronted Shafiqul and began hurling verbal abuse. The argument quickly escalated, and in a fit of rage, Gias attacked Shafiqul with a hasua (a traditional sharp cutting tool), inflicting multiple blows, before fleeing.
