Fantasy turned flesh: George R R Martin meets real life dire wolves

In a blog post, George R R Martin revealed that he had met the real-life dire wolves back in February.
The dire wolf, a species that went extinct over 12,500 years ago, is now back due to the efforts of Colossal Biosciences. According to the blog post, the dire wolf was one of the main sources of inspiration behind the popular series, 'Game of Thrones'.
"I visited the La Brea Tar Pits in LA a few decades back, and when I saw their direwolf exhibit, four hundred skull arrayed on a wall, something stirred inside me," penned Martin.
The blog post also shows a picture of the author holding a dire wolf, either Remus or Romulus, in his hands. Among the dire wolves that were brought back, one was named Khaleesi, an homage to the 'Game of Thrones' character.
Fans have taken the opportunity to jest, some commenting, "We got an extinct species resurrected before 'Winds of Winter'."
