Ronaldo nets brace to bring his career tally to 931, as Al-Nassr win 3-1

Cristiano Ronaldo achieved another remarkable milestone in his illustrious career on 5 April 2025, scoring a brace for Al-Nassr in their 3-1 victory over Al-Hilal. With the two goals, the Portuguese legend has now reached 931 career goals, just 69 shy of becoming the first footballer to score 1000 goals in official matches.

Ronaldo's performance on Friday came in the second half, as Al-Nassr secured a vital win in the race for the Saudi Pro League title. The Riyadh-based club remains in third place with 54 points from 26 matches, while Al-Ittihad leads the table with 61 points from 25 games. Al-Hilal sits in second with 57 points from 26 matches.

While Ronaldo's individual achievement is significant, the 40-year-old striker emphasised that his primary focus remains on team success. "The team effort was crucial to this win, and me scoring is important, but it's more important to win," Ronaldo said in an interview with SSC. "I work hard to help the team in the SPL and Champions League and don't concentrate on individual records," he added.

With his brace, Ronaldo's season tally now stands at 21 goals, marking the 15th time in his career that he has scored 20 or more goals in a season. All 15 of these instances have occurred over the past 17 seasons. The first time Ronaldo achieved 20+ goals in a season was during the 2007/08 Premier League season with Manchester United. The only two seasons in the last 17 where Ronaldo failed to reach the 20-goal mark were the 2021/22 and 2022/23 campaigns.

The match at the Kingdom Arena saw Al-Nassr take the lead before the break with a goal from Ali Al Hassan, who curled a shot past Al-Hilal goalkeeper Yassin Bono.

Ronaldo doubled Al-Nassr's advantage just two minutes into the second half, converting a precise shot after a pass from Sadio Mane.

Al-Hilal, the reigning champions, attempted a comeback, playing on the counter-attack. They reduced the deficit in the 62nd minute when Ali Al Bulayhi headed home from close range following a corner.

However, Ronaldo sealed the victory for Al-Nassr in the 88th minute, converting a penalty awarded after a handball by Al-Hilal substitute Mouteb Al-Harbi, following a VAR review.
