An accused in a drug case escaped from police custody after breaking the grill of a window at Aftabganj Police Camp in Nawabganj upazila of Dinajpur district yesterday (23 March).

Inspector Sirajul Islam, in-charge of Aftabganj Police Camp, said police arrested Royel, 35, from Kazipara area early Sunday along with three bottles of Phensedyl.

Later, he was brought to Aftabganj Police Camp and kept in a room.

At one stage, Royel managed to flee by breaking the grill of the window.

Manjurul Islam, superintendent of Birampur Circle Police, said as the police camp does not have a designated detention facility the accused was kept in a room.

Police are trying to arrest the fugitive, he added.
