The Rohingya refugee community in Bangladesh extended gratitude to Antonio Guterres, the UN secretary general, for visiting them and standing in solidarity with them during this holy month of Ramadan​​​​​​. 

"His presence and participation in Iftar with our community have not only uplifted our spirits but have also brought crucial global attention to the Rohingya crisis. His continued efforts to highlight our plight give us hope for a just and dignified future," reads a statement issued yesterday (17 March) .

"We also express our heartfelt appreciation to the government and people of Bangladesh for their generosity in hosting 1.2 million forcibly displaced Rohingya people.Despite facing their own challenges, Bangladesh has opened its borders to us and provided a safe space where we can seek refuge. We acknowledge the sacrifices made by the host community and remain grateful for their kindness and support over the years," it adds.

The Rohingya community expressed sincere thanks to all the kind hearted donating countries, agencies and individual including the people of the United States and it's government for their significant humanitarian assistance.

The unwavering support from America has been instrumental in ensuring access to essential services particularly food, shelter, alternative cooking fuel(Liquefied Petroleum Gas), protection, nutrition, health care, education, water and sanitation, and a safer living environment.

"We deeply appreciate that more than 50% of the humanitarian aid we receive came from the United States and its people from 2017 to end of 2024, made a vital difference in our daily survival and well-being," reads the statement.

Without the support of the American people and their government, survival in the refugee camps of Cox's Bazar would be nearly impossible, as they are entirely dependent on humanitarian aid.

Stating that the political and financial commitment from the United State has been a lifeline for their community. ensuring that they can sustain themselves in these challenging circumstances, the Rohingya community requested "the people of the United States and their government to continue standing with us until a lasting and dignified solution to our crisis is achieved."
