The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) conducted a sting operation in Thakurgaon's Haripur upazila and caught an accounts officer and an auditor red-handed while taking bribes.

ACC Director General Akhtar Hossain confirmed the matter to reporters today (17 March).

According to the complaint, Md Abdul Hamid, a retired security guard of the Gedura Union Health and Family Welfare Centre, applied for his retirement benefits at the Upazila Accounts Office on 5 February 2025.

However, auditor Md Hannan and Upazila Accounts Officer Md Sherikuzzaman allegedly demanded Tk30,000 to process his file, later settling for Tk22,000.

Upon receiving the complaint, the ACC's Thakurgaon office planned to carry out a trap case to catch them red-handed.

As per the plan, when Abdul Hamid handed over Tk5,000 in cash as part of the agreed bribe, ACC officials caught Md Hannan in the act.

Simultaneously, Upazila Accounts Officer Md Sherikuzzaman, the alleged mastermind behind the bribery, was also arrested.

Legal action is underway against the detained officials, the ACC said.
