Celebrities who visited Rohingya camps in Cox's Bazar

Several international celebrities, including Angelina Jolie, Cate Blanchett, Priyanka Chopra, and Hend Sabry, have visited Rohingya refugee camps in Cox's Bazar over the years to raise awareness and advocate for humanitarian support. 

Their visits have highlighted the plight of over a million displaced Rohingya and underscored the urgent need for global intervention.

Angelina Jolie

UN refugee agency special envoy Angelina Jolie visited the Kutupalong refugee camp on 4 February 2019, the world's largest settlement for displaced Rohingya, reports Reuters. 

Addressing a crowd of refugees, Jolie expressed her solidarity, saying, "You have every right not to be stateless, and the way you have been treated shames us all". 

She criticised the international community's failure to prevent the crisis, stating, "What is most tragic about this situation is that we cannot say we had no warning."

Cate Blanchett

UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Cate Blanchett also visited the Rohingya refugee camps in southeastern Bangladesh on 21 March 2018. 

With the monsoon season approaching, she warned of the dire risks faced by the displaced families. "The Rohingya refugees have already experienced targeted violence, human rights abuses, and horrific journeys. They have shown unimaginable resilience and courage," Blanchett said. 

During her visit in 2018, she stressed the need for immediate international assistance to prevent further disaster as floods and landslides threatened over 150,000 refugees.

Priyanka Chopra

On 21 May 2018, Bollywood actress and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Priyanka Chopra visited Rohingya refugee camps in Teknaf, Cox's Bazar. 

She later wrote in a Facebook post, "These children are at the forefront of this humanitarian crisis, and they desperately need our help. The world needs to care. We need to care. These kids are our future". 

She also said that 60% of the refugee population were children, many of whom were left without families, education, or basic necessities.

Hend Sabry

Arab actress and World Food Programme (WFP) Goodwill Ambassador Hend Sabry visited the refugee camps to support displaced Rohingya families on 14 November 2019. 

She met with women who had become heads of their households, calling their resilience inspiring. "I met inspiring women who have become heads of their households and are doing their best for their children in one of humanity's most difficult circumstances," she said. 

Sabry highlighted the importance of humanitarian aid and said, "Suffering has no borders, and humanity has no boundaries."

The visits of these celebrities have drawn worldwide attention to the Rohingya crisis, urging stronger international intervention and funding for humanitarian relief efforts.
