The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has ordered the submission of an investigation report by 12 May against former Dhaka North City Corporation mayor Atiqul Islam and nine others on charges of murder and genocide in Uttara during the anti-discrimination movement last year.

The order was issued today (9 March) by the tribunal, headed by its Chairman Justice Md Golam Mortuza Majumdar.

According to prosecution sources, the investigation report was initially due on 9 March.

However, as the investigation was not completed within this time, the prosecution requested an extension. After a hearing, the tribunal fixed the new deadline.

At around 12 noon, Atiqul and the other accused were produced before the tribunal. Following the order, they were taken back to jail.

The other accused in the case include Abdullah Al Mamun Mondal, organising secretary of Gazipur Metropolitan Awami League; Bashir Uddin, president of Uttara Sector 6 Awami League; Delwar Hossain Rubel, president of Dhaka North Ward 1 Jubo League; and former police officials Moshikur Rahman, Hossain Ali, Javed Iqbal, and Omar Ali.
