A grocery shop owner in the capital's Shahjahanpur area was allegedly attacked by a group of miscreants, who cut the veins in both of his hands early this morning (9 March).

The victim, identified as Ruhul Amin, 55, a grocery shop owner in Shanti Bagh, Shahjahanpur, is currently undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Police said that the incident took place near the Shanti Bagh water pump at around 6am. Later, at approximately 8am, the injured businessman was brought to the emergency department of DMCH for treatment.

Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH outpost, said, "The grocery trader was brought to the hospital in a critical condition this morning. He is currently undergoing treatment at the emergency department. We have informed the police of the concerned police station."

The injured grocery trader's brother-in-law, Amanullah, said, "He had opened the shop at around 6am this morning. At that time, two and three unidentified miscreants came to the shop; they blindfolded Ruhul Amin and cut the veins in both of his hands with a sharp knife."

"We swiftly rescued Ruhul after receiving the information and brought him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital," he added.

However, the reason behind the attackers' motive could not be immediately determined.

According to his relatives, Ruhul Amin is the son of the late Abdur Rahman of Paniyarup village in Kasba Upazila of Brahmanbaria and lives in a rented house in the Shahjahanpur area.
