A video of a man entering the room of the newly-appointed Officer-in-Charge of Ashulia Mohammad Monirul Haque Dablu and misbehaving with him went viral yesterday (5 March).

The youth had identified himself as the peon of a Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) office, even calling the OC "Chattra League OC".

The accused is Sumon Mia, a resident of Ashulia's Basaid area.

When stopped by journalists present, he said he was sent by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam and his driver to investigate the OC, the video shows.

He later said he only wanted to greet the new officer.

According to eyewitnesses, Sumon entered the room of Mohammad Monirul Haque Dablu, the newly appointed OC of Ashulia police station, yesterday around 11:30am.

The youth left the room upon further questioning by the journalists present there, eyewitnesses said.

Meanwhile, BNP's Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has called the OC and asked him to take actions against the youth after hearing about the incident, a Facebook post shared through BNP's official page showed.

The matter came to Rizvi's attention after different media outlets published news regarding the incident.

Rizvi immediately inquired about the youth and learned that he misbehaved using a false identity.

Rizvi called the OC at once and asked him to take actions against the youth for maligning the party's image and misbehaving while falsely identifying as a BNP man, the Facebook post read.

Contacted, OC Monirul told The Business Standard, "I went to the police station and there were many journalists present in my room. The youth stepped forward first, introduced himself as the brother of the driver of Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir or something like that, and said he had come to meet me as he was told that I was aligned with the Chhatra League."

"I could not fully grasp what happened as I was busy. Later, people made the youth leave the room," OC Monirul added.

Police are yet to lodge a complaint against the youth.

However, Md Kamal Hossain, Inspector of Ashulia police station, said, "We are gathering details about the youth."
